MOM
This is a series of collages of my mother, created during my college years. I was always afraid of her dying young, as her life was a frightening adventure to witness and to experience first-hand as her daughter. Miraculously, she lived to be 75 years old and passed away in December of 2017. I made these collages during her short-lived period of sobriety in the early 2000's, when our relationship began to take on a seemingly normal and healthy form of mother-daughter intimacy. Perhaps there was a part of me that knew this period would not last. This creative work was my way of capturing as many moments of closeness as I could. I recall feeling the need to hold on to every piece of her, commemorating the few fragments of her life that were available to me, in the form of imagery and paint.
